The Mahwah Schools Foundation welcomed runners of all ages and abilities to the return of the Thunderbird 5K, held under picture-perfect fall skies and crisp temperatures in the high 40s. The cool air and vibrant foliage provided an ideal backdrop for fast times and fierce competition on a course that wound through the scenic Mahwah community.

Efrain Gonzalez delivered a commanding performance from the gun, setting the tone early and never looking back. With a smooth stride and steady pacing, Gonzalez crossed the finish line in a blistering 17:27, securing a decisive victory and putting a stamp on the day’s fastest time. The women’s race offered a more tactical battle, with several contenders in the mix through the early miles. But it was Kassie Albano who surged ahead in the final stretch, unleashing a powerful kick to claim the women’s overall title in 21:02. Her late-race push thrilled spectators and sealed a well-earned win as she defend her title from last year's race.

Beyond the competition, the Thunderbird 5K served as a celebration of community and support for local education. Hosted by the Mahwah Schools Foundation, the event brought together students, families, alumni, and supporters in a shared effort to promote wellness and raise funds for educational initiatives.

With its successful return and strong turnout, the Thunderbird 5K has reestablished itself as a highlight on the local racing calendar. Here's to many more miles and memories ahead!
