The Valley 5k Walk and Run
The inaugural The Valley 5K Walk and Run brought together runners, walkers, families, students, and community supporters for a morning focused on fitness, inclusion, and giving back. Hosted at the Northern Valley Central - NVC The Valley Program in Norwood, the event combined competitive racing with a meaningful mission, supporting programs and services for students with autism and related learning disabilities.
Participants of all ages took part in a full slate of events, including the Kids Sprint Challenge, the 1-Mile Challenge, and the featured 5K Run/Walk. The race showcased a flat and fast course designed to welcome everyone from experienced runners chasing personal records to first-time participants and families enjoying a healthy morning together.

One of the event's standout features was its community-friendly layout, which allowed spectators to cheer on participants from multiple vantage points without needing to travel between locations. The supportive atmosphere created a high-energy environment throughout the morning, with families, friends, and teammates encouraging runners every step of the way.
Breaking the tape was Northvale's Josh Reilly in 19:47, setting the pace for the race's 126 athletes. For the women, Cordelia Goodman earned top female honors, completing the course in 24:42, finishing 9th overall. More than just a race, the event served as a fundraiser for The Valley Program, with proceeds supporting special education services, adaptive equipment, vocational training opportunities, and community outings for students. The strong turnout demonstrated the community's commitment to supporting these important programs while enjoying a day of healthy competition and camaraderie.
From young athletes taking their first strides in the Kids Sprint Challenge to runners tackling the 5K course, the event successfully delivered on its goal of creating an inclusive experience for all ability levels. By the end of the morning, participants left with more than just race memories, knowing their efforts helped advance opportunities for students served by The Valley Program.
The combination of a fast course, enthusiastic community support, family-friendly activities, and a worthwhile cause helped establish The Valley 5K Walk and Run as a memorable addition to Northern New Jersey's fall racing calendar.
