St Cecilia's LIFE Runners' 5k
Under picture-perfect late October conditions, runners were treated to a spectacular morning at the annual race. With temperatures hovering around 50 degrees, bright sunshine overhead, and virtually no wind to be found, competitors enjoyed the kind of crisp fall weather that distance runners dream about.
The course itself carried a little extra significance this year. Today's route will serve as the site of the 2026 NJSIAA North II Sectional Championships this coming Saturday, giving participants an opportunity to test themselves on a course that will soon welcome some of New Jersey's top high school athletes. The combination of rolling terrain, autumn scenery, and championship-caliber setup made for a memorable race experience from start to finish.
Leading the men's field was Freddy Garcia, who powered through the course in 19:31 to secure the overall victory. Garcia established himself near the front early and maintained a strong pace throughout the morning, crossing the finish line comfortably ahead of the competition. On the women's side, Tuly Vu claimed top honors with a winning performance of 28:20. Vu ran a steady and determined race, earning the female title and adding her name to this year's list of champions.
Beyond the front of the pack, the event showcased what makes community running special. Participants of all ages and abilities took advantage of the ideal weather, whether chasing personal records, competing for awards, or simply enjoying a beautiful morning outdoors. Smiles were plentiful at the finish line as runners celebrated their accomplishments and took in the festive atmosphere.
With championship racing set to arrive on the course in just a few days, today's runners got a firsthand look at one of North Jersey's key postseason venues. Combined with perfect conditions and strong performances from Garcia and Vu, the race delivered a fitting celebration of fall running in New Jersey.
