Mark Lane Sports Complex – March 15, 2026
River Vale’s first-ever Shamrock Shuffle 5K kicked off its debut in style on Sunday, March 15, as runners, walkers, families, dogs, and strollers packed into the Mark Lane Sports Complex for a morning full of fitness, festive spirit, and community pride. The event—presented by Run 4 The Love & Fitness with Friends, in partnership with the Township of River Vale and the River Vale Police Department—benefited the River Vale Police Association, drawing strong local support from start to finish.
A Strong Turnout for a First-Year Event
With registration opening at 7:00 AM, the complex was buzzing early. Bundles of green gear, costumed runners, and plenty of Irish-themed accessories created a fun, energetic atmosphere. The family-friendly nature of the race was on full display: kids darted around the infield, leashed dogs strutted in shamrock bandanas, and stroller-pushing parents lined up proudly alongside seasoned runners.
By the 8:00 AM start, the crowd was primed and ready for the scenic 3.1-mile route through River Vale’s quiet, picturesque streets—an ideal showcase of the town’s charm.
While many participants came out for fun, the front of the pack wasted no time setting a competitive tone.
Ryan Scully broke the tape as the inaugural champion, clocking an impressive 17:40. Madison Smrz claimed the women’s title with a strong 20:34, finishing 4th overall in the entire field—an outstanding performance to kick off the event’s history.

Volunteers—many of them officers, town staff, or local families—lined the course with cowbells, signs, and encouragement. It truly embodied the event’s promise: a celebration of fitness, fun, and community.
Participants wound through residential streets before heading back to the Sports Complex for a bustling finish-line scene. Post-race refreshments, laughter, and proud photo ops kept the energy high long after the last stroller crossed the line.
One of the defining themes of the morning was inclusivity. True to its advertising—“runners, walkers, crawlers, dogs, and strollers welcome!”—the race welcomed athletes of all ages and abilities. The joyful mix of participants made it feel less like a competitive event and more like a community celebration.
Most importantly, the event served a meaningful purpose: proceeds benefited the River Vale Police Association, helping support local officers and community initiatives. Every stride taken and every registration fee contributed directly to strengthening the bond between neighbors and the officers who serve them.
As participants mingled in the crisp early-spring air, one sentiment was nearly universal: this race needs to return next year. Between the enthusiastic turnout, smooth organization, great course, and festive St. Patrick’s Day vibes, the inaugural River Vale Shamrock Shuffle 5K set the stage for what is likely to become a beloved annual tradition. If year one looked this good, year two will be even better. Until then—congratulations to all the finishers, thanks to the organizers and volunteers, and cheers to River Vale for a fantastic first Shuffle
