Perfect early fall weather set the stage for an inspiring morning at Montville Township High School, where more than 500 runners and walkers gathered for the Gracie’s Army Foundation Go Gold 5K and Fun Run. The community came together not only to race but to honor and support children and families affected by pediatric cancer.

The USATF-NJ sanctioned 5K course wound through Montville neighborhoods before returning to the high school track for a strong finish. In the men’s race, John Larkin surged to victory, breaking the tape in 17:38. Daniel Burkert followed as runner-up in 18:43, putting in a strong performance over the scenic route.

The women’s race produced one of the most exciting finishes of the day. Anna George narrowly edged Lily Snow, stopping the clock at 20:49 with Snow less than a stride behind in 20:50. Both athletes brought the crowd to its feet as they pushed each other to the line.

But the event was about far more than fast times. Families, friends, and supporters of all ages joined in the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk and the 40 Yard Dash, enjoying the festive atmosphere filled with food trucks, local vendors, and family-friendly activities. The morning also included a moving recognition ceremony honoring children bravely fighting pediatric cancer, reminding everyone of the purpose behind the event.

Awards were presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, age-group winners, and—most importantly—cancer survivors. Smiles, cheers, and gold ribbons were everywhere as the Montville community showed its strength and generosity.

Participating in fundraisers like this 5K not only empowers people to give back but also raises critical funds for pediatric cancer research and support for families in need. This year’s Go Gold 5K & Fun Run proved once again that Montville Township knows how to “Be the Light in the Fight Against Pediatric Cancer!”
