A Family Sweep: The Albano Family Take Top Spots at the 2024 Thunderbird Run

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, the Mahwah Schools Foundation hosted the annual Thunderbird Run at Mahwah High School, offering participants a beautiful autumn day of racing. The event, which brought together families, students, and athletes from the local community, included both a 5K run and a 2-mile walk to benefit the schools of Mahwah. The morning began crisp and cool, with the 5K race kicking off promptly at 8:30 a.m., followed closely by the 2-mile walk.
The race course, which featured a blend of suburban streets and stunning mountain views, made for an enjoyable experience for all involved. Runners were treated to a particularly scenic finish, looping 300 meters around the Mahwah High School track with the majestic Ramapo Mountains framing their final strides.
The competition on the men's side saw Rob Albano claim the overall victory, crossing the line with a time of 16:24, defending his 2022 crown after missing last year's event. In the women's division, Cassie Albano, Rob’s wife, added to the family triumph by taking first place with a solid time of 21:00, good for 12th overall. Over 200 registrants participated in the 5k events with nearly 500 more participating in the walk or kid's run.
Following the race, participants, volunteers, and spectators gathered to enjoy post-race refreshments and celebrate the day's accomplishments. With beautiful weather, a well-organized event, and an enthusiastic crowd, the 2024 Thunderbird Run proved to be a highlight in Rock Race Timing's fall race calendar.
