The 2024 Superhero 5K, held at Stone Point Park in Old Tappan, NJ, kicked off at 9 AM on a brisk but sunny morning, with perfect conditions for the runners to shine. The race, benefitting Old Tappan Emergency Services, saw strong participation across both the 5K run/walk and the post-race kiddie dash, as families, friends, and superheroes of all kinds gathered to show support.

Leading the way was Gary Lausin, who not only defended his title from last year but did so in impressive fashion, shaving nearly three minutes off his previous winning time. Lausin crossed the finish line with a blazing 16:22, setting a new personal best and setting the bar high for future participants.
However, it was the women who made the biggest impact on the day, securing three out of the top four overall spots. Lauren Houston led the charge, taking the women's title with a stellar time of 21:10, and finishing second overall. Right behind her were Lauren Lundy Goehring and Tara Aylward, showing the depth of talent in the women's field and making it a truly standout day for female competitors.
In the under-17 division, Andrew Kornfeld claimed victory for the boys, showcasing his youthful speed and determination, while Harper Gallo took top honors on the girls’ side, both of them proving that the future of racing in Old Tappan is bright.

The morning started cold, but as the sun rose higher, so did the energy levels, creating a fantastic atmosphere for all participants and spectators alike. With the success of the 2024 Superhero 5K, the event continues to solidify its place as a cornerstone of the community's charitable and athletic events.
Congratulations to all the runners, walkers, and superheroes who participated, and a special thanks to Old Tappan Emergency Services for their crucial role in making this event possible. See you next year!
