The Bogota 5K made a spirited comeback this past Sunday, capping off a memorable Homecoming weekend at Bogota High School. Held at the school’s brand-new, state-of-the-art track and field facility, the race marked the return of a beloved community tradition after a years-long hiatus—and it did so in style.
The weekend kicked off with a stellar performance by the Bogota girls cross country team, who clinched 3rd place at the prestigious Bergen County Meet of Champions on Saturday. Their success set the tone for Sunday’s 5K, which welcomed a mix of current students, alumni, and local running enthusiasts. Under crisp autumn skies, the energy was electric as runners lined up for the 5K. The new facility provided a fast and smooth course, and the crowd—filled with cheering families, classmates, and coaches—added to the celebratory vibe.

Nikko Reyes surged to victory, showcasing both speed and poise. He was followed closely by former Bogota teammates Danny Daurio and Jimmy Gutierrez, who rounded out the men’s podium in a nostalgic display of camaraderie and competitive spirit. On the women’s side, Kelly Weckstein delivered a commanding performance, crossing the line in 20:44 and securing 12th place overall. Her win highlighted the depth of talent among Bogota’s alumni and added another layer of excitement to the day.
The return of the Bogota 5K wasn’t just about racing—it was a reunion. Alumni from various graduating classes came together to celebrate their shared history and the bright future of Bogota athletics. With the new facility and renewed enthusiasm, the event promises to become a staple once again. As the echoes of cheering fade and the track settles, one thing is clear: the Bogota 5K is back, and it’s here to stay. With strong performances, community spirit, and a world-class venue, the race has reclaimed its place as a highlight of the fall season.
